Dark photon limits: A handbook

چکیده
The dark photon is a massive hypothetical particle that interacts with the Standard Model by kinetically mixing visible photon. For small values of parameter, photons can evade cosmological bounds to be viable matter candidate. Due similarities electromagnetic signals generated axions, several on are simply reinterpretations historical set axion haloscopes. However, has property does not: an intrinsic polarisation. rotation Earth, accurately accounting for this polarisation nontrivial, highly experiment-dependent, and depends upon assumptions about photon's production mechanism. We show if one account DP polarisation, experiment's discovery reach enhanced over order magnitude. detail strategies would need taken properly optimise search. These include judiciously choosing location orientation experiment, as well strategically timing any repeated measurements. Experiments located at $\pm$35$^\circ$ or $\pm$55$^\circ$ latitude, making three observations different times sidereal day, achieve sensitivity fully optimised insensitive state, hence its also point out well-known searches axions employ techniques testing preclude their ability exclusion limits photons, should not reinterpreted such.

Dark matter detectors as dark photon helioscopes.
Light new particles with masses below 10 keV, often considered as a plausible extension of the standard model, will be emitted from the solar interior and can be detected on Earth with a variety of experimental tools. Here, we analyze the new "dark" vector state V, a massive vector boson mixed with the photon via an angle κ, that in the limit of the small mass mV has its emission spectrum stron...
متن کاملSearch for a dark photon at BABAR
We present the results of a search for a dark photon decaying to e + e − or µ + µ − in the BABAR detector [1]. We find no evidence for such a dark pho-ton and set upper limits on the dark mixing as a function mass, tightening the constraints on the parameter space of several dark sector theories. The notion of dark matter was introduced over 80 years ago by Zwicky [2]. In the intervening years,...
متن کاملPhoton and Graviton Mass Limits
Efforts to place limits on deviations from canonical formulations of electromagnetism and gravity have probed length scales increasing dramatically over time. Historically, these formulations have passed through three stages: (1) Testing the power in the inverse-square laws of Newton and Coulomb, (2) Seeking a nonzero value for the rest mass of photon or graviton, (3) Considering more degrees o...
متن کاملLimits on WIMP Dark Matter
The current state searches for dark matter in the form of Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs) using both direct and indirect techniques is reviewed. Advances in recent years by various direct search experiments, utilising technology able to record the nuclear recoil events expected from elastic scattering by WIMPs, have allowed progress towards lower limits to be made. In particular, t...
متن کاملLimits on Sparticle Dark Matter
Arguments are given that the lightest supersymmetric particle should be a neutralino χ. Minimizing the fine tuning of the gauge hierarchy favours Ωχh 2 ∼ 0.1. There are important constraints on the parameter space os the MSSM from the stability of the electroweak vacuum. Co-annihilation with the next-to-lightest supersymmetric particle is potentially significant. Incorporating the latest accele...
